Email: Week #5 in MTC

Hi!

Everything is still going on well! It is just crazy to think that I have been here for a month now in Buenos Aires. I still have two more weeks until I hit the mission field, and I am excited!

I had the chance to go proselyting a few days ago. We went out again to the neighborhood and starting walking. We decided to say prayers at the end of every street, pretty much a ton of prayers. We walked for a bit, with determination to get working. We walked and talked to a lot of people, but no one was interested. Then, we walked up to a guy weeding in the front of his house. We went up to him and asked if he knew anything about the Mormons, he said that he did. He lost contact with them after he moved, so we got his information! We were so happy when we got our first contact. We said a prayer of thanks, and honestly starting crying, we were so happy. It felt so good. Then before we knew it, we gave out a couple copies of the book of Mormon and got another contact! If that isn't a testimony builder, than I don't know what is. God really does answer our prayers when we put in the effort, we just need to open our mouths, and the spirit can do the rest.

But things are still going just fantastic around here! I can send you all the fun pictures i took and all of those selfies! Hahah. The people in my district are all people that got here the same time I did, so we all leave in a week from Tuesday to Paraguay! It is crazy, but we are all ready to leave. We have been here for a while.

I am almost out of time, but I hope that all is well! I love and miss you all for sure!

Love,

Elder Crandall

Email: Week #4 in MTC

Hi Family!

That's cool you got to clean the church, I never have done that before. I also have never had a problem with walking up to bear my testimony. It is just a gift that the Lord has really blessed me with. I may not necessarily be the most talkative person that you know, but once it comes to the gospel, I am always willing to get up and speak!

I am able to take pictures every 2 weeks, so this Sunday I will have to think of some creative pictures to take while I am at the MTC. The picture of the 'tower' was the main spiral of the temple, with the Moroni on top. In English, it kinda means Sanctity to him, the house of the Lord. It doesn't translate the best, but it works. The fountain is right in front of the main entrance to the temple, which I was able to go again today! I used to be kind of nervous and afraid to attend the temple, but now I just love to attend it every week and look forward to it! I would be really happy to go once a week with you when I get home. I just enjoy feeling the spirit in there and being in the celestial room! Down here in Argentina, they show the same video as they do over in Mesa, it is just dubbed to Spanish.

It would be awesome if you could get more people to send me e-mails, I would just love to hear from everyone! Also, because I type a lot faster than most people I just fly through all my e-mails while some people barely get through a few haha. We get an hour every Thursday to e-mail.

The Willis's finally got in yesterday. I was able to talk to them about that I knew their son and they thought that it was really cool. They had a crazy experience. They had to do an emergency landing in Uruguay because something was really wrong with the plane, that actually the plane could have easily crashed, so that is really good they are okay and made it here safely. The old MTC President, President Openshaw, had a meeting with the couple district leaders. So when he prayed, he prayed that the new presidents would be able to arrive in safety and that the weather would be okay. We didn't think really much, or anything, of it at all. But after hearing the story, about how the thunderstorms down here tore off a piece of the wing on the plane (the part that keeps the plane in the air), such that the plane easily could have gown down. So it was really neat to notice how receptive to the Spirit that President Openshaw was, and how much I really would like to work on getting to that level.

I have now been in the MTC for 3 weeks now, so I have 2 and a half more weeks to go. The MTC is not really that big, probably around 60 missionaries. Once a week, we go proselying out into a neighborhood. It is really hard to do so, because talking to random people in the street is hard enough, but doing it in Spanish is another story. We have a sacrament room in the MTC building that we use, and the temple is about 100 feet away from the MTC, so it is easy to attend. I am only learning Spanish here, I still have no idea about Guarani, but the thing is that most people know Spanish, so they don't really focus much on it. The food here is almost always really good. It literally is meat with every single meal. They have this one desert, called alfajores, or triple shot, which is like really amazing. I hope they have them in Paraguay, so I can stock up on them before I come home. They are just huge chocolate covered cookies.

But I am getting into a pretty normal routine here. I wake up at 6:30, eat breakfast, and then head off to an hour of personal study. Then I have a couple classes, lunch, then some physical activity time (I play basketball, volleyball, soccer, or do workouts), more classes, dinner, personal language study and then we plan for the next day. It gets a little boring at times, but it is really fun to be here still! I really like my district a lot. It is my trio of elders and then 4 other Hermanas (the picture I sent you is all of them). We all get along really well. I am just wanting to say that it is awesome how things work here. We are always praying for the gift of tongues, and it really isn't something you understand unless you are here. People are learning languages so fast. I know for a fact I would not be in the same place I am today without that help I get from prayer! It is just awesome. All my classes I am taking now are about how to work with investigators and learning the language. I am in a room with 4 latin americans, so it helps to learn some Spanish.  I have learned a lot while in here, and it is neat to be in a place where the Spirit can bear testimony to me everyday! I just finished reading 3rd and 4th Nephi in Spanish over the last 2 weeks, and it is awesome that I can understand what is going on! I can really feel the help I need to get working. It is just kind of crazy to imagine that I will be leaving off into the field soon, but I know I will be ready if I keep studying.

Well, I am never really sure of what to write in these e-mails, so sorry about that haha, but I just am still having a lot of fun here! I am excited to get out into the field, and am glad that I have already made some good friends out here in the MTC! I hope all is still going well, and thanks for all the updates on everything! I sure do miss you all, e-mails are hard, because it is the one time I kind of feel homesick again. But it is awesome to write you guys! And also make sure to let people know that I would enjoy any e-mails I can get! And thanks for sending all those pictures and my patriarchal blessing. I showed the pictures of my family to the other people in my district. They were really shocked to see the difference between Kurtis and I haha, and the Hermanas were saying that they thought Lindsay was really pretty too. But it was fun to show them everyone. Well, I will be off and hope all is going well! Make sure if there is anything else you want to know, just send me lots of questions! Talk to you guys next week.

A BIG thank you to all those who read this blog and for all your support!

Tonight, my family found cookies from our sweet neighbors! It was a delicious plate of cookies with a note that said, "Thanks for sharing Elder Crandall's letters and pictures. He's an inspiration to us all." I am so sending this picture to Elder Crandall, showing him the sweet note and that we enjoyed and ate most of the cookies! THANKS for reading Elder Crandall's emails and updates! We love the support!
Sincerely,

Email: Week #3 in MTC

Hello!
Everything is still going well!  The only times I get on the computer is to use e-mails, so I will not be using facebook while there unless they were to change it. And that is really awesome that Lindsay is keeping up a blog for everyone to see and hear from me.
I think that is awesome that everyone is doing so well now! I am the most experienced with Spanish of all the Americans here, but I still have a lot I need to learn. It is absolutely crazy that we have so many missionaries out in the field right now, but it is just absolutely amazing. The MTC is placed right next to the temple. So every p-day before I e-mail I am able to go attend the temple. It really is the most amazing thing ever. I also think it is really cool that they show the same video in the temple here as they do in Arizona, but just with voiced over in Spanish. I love the temple and being able to be in the Celestial Room. I can really feel the peace and love of my father in heaven.
Next Tuesday, Brother and Sister Willis will come to the MTC and become the new presidents of the MTC. So they have yet to arrive, but I am definitely going to tell him that. It is cool to see that everything is going well with the dogs.
I actually really love the food here, I am eating a lot while here and I actually have yet to use my hot sauce. For breakfast we just eat cereal every morning. So it is still pretty normal. Also, everyone in my district really loves the movie Frozen and so we play that music of the soundtrack all the time while we study together.
The investigators I am teaching while in the MTC are just practices because I and everyone else is still learning the language. So the focus of it is to learn how to teach the gospel in Spanish, which I seem to be excelling at. I actually try not to talk as much in the discussions so my companions can practice their Spanish. However, I was able to go proselyting (No idea how to spell it in English) in a nearby neighborhood. It was really a tiring experience walking around for 5 hours and trying to communicate in Spanish, but it was a good experience. I learned a lot from it. Overall as a group, we got about 5 new contacts and handed out several copies of the Book of Mormon.

I can knock on doors, but a lot of times I have to clap because they have gates in front of the doors. For service projects here at the MTC, it depends. I like clean the kitchen, take out the trash, or clean the stairs and such. On my pdays, I end up going to the temple in the morning, emailing, napping, and playing sports. Every day I have physical activity where I play sports like soccer, basketball, or volleyball. It is really fun to get to hang out and get to know everyone in my group.

Today I was able to go to the temple again for the second time here in Buenos Aires. The temple is so beautiful and magnificent. I just feel a grand peace and huge love from God that can never be felt anywhere else but the house of the Lord. It is amazing, and I absolutely love it. The feeling to know that there is someone watching over you is amazing. I just love the Celestial Room. At first, it was a little confusing, the first times I went, but it just gets better and better.

They call the mission ´´EFY on steroids´´ here for a reason. Everyday is a new opportunity to feel the spirit through teaching. Everyday I prepare lessons and spend a few hours studying the scriptures. It seems like a long time, but it goes by fast. I enjoy learning. I am mostly focusing on learning how to teach in Spanish, but I love it. The MTC is full of times to bond with others and feel the love of the gospel. I hope all is well! Writing these letters are the only thing that keeps me from continuing to spell correctly in English because my Spanish is starting to mess it up.
I have had a lot of really neat experiences here in the MTC. Everyday, a 16-hour day, I can learn new lessons and how to better teach in Spanish. I really can feel the spirit as I pray everyday and constantly read the scriptures. It is really cool that I can now read the Book of Mormon, Bible, and Preach My Gospel all in Spanish now. The Lord is really doing miracles down here, and I just am absolutely so happy here, which is something you will hear from me alot! I hope all is doing well and I love and miss you all!

Email: Week #2 in MTC

Hi everyone,

I haven't been able to take many pictures yet, but we are allowed to take some this Sunday. I was also wondering if you guys would send me some pictures of our family in the next e-mail, like four or five pictures of our family and some of me when I was little, because I forgot to bring any... but everyone in my district really wants to see my twin that looks nothing like me! But it would be nice to have some pictures to have during my mission of our family, that would be awesome. But I just want to let you know that I am having a blast here, it is super fun! I am in a trio of companions, Elder Richardson y Elder Jones. I've been practicing teaching and learning Spanish a lot, so I have been super, super busy during the weeks. Sometimes it is pretty tiring, but always worth it. I am the acting Senior Companion and was called to be the leader of my district, Nefi. As a joke, everyone in my district calls me the bishop.

I was the only one to fly from Phoenix to Atlanta. It was funny because I was talking to the people next to me and they were so shocked when I said my mission would be for two years and then they asked if I could get married as a missionary... haha kind of strange. But that's why I am out here, because a lot of people don't know about the gospel and I want to share it. On my connecting flight, there was about 15 missionaries, not 50. But thankfully I was able to get on my flight and all went well. I arrived at the MTC at about 6:30 in the morning.

Today, I was able to go to the temple in Buenos Aires and it was so beautiful. I felt so happy inside and I really love it. It's just crazy how fast I and some other people are doing in progessing in teaching the gospel in Spanish. I love to see it everday how the Lord works. I am so happy to be out here (I will probably say that a lot...) no matter how tired I may get sometimes. I am also keeping a journal, so when I get back in about 2 years you can read about everyday of my journey here.

Also, writing e-mails would be easier, but you can write letters if you want. I have a designated time (1 hour) every week on Thursday to write letters to other people. Also, it is really hot out here. I start sweating after walking around for like 10 minutes really bad, but in the morning and at night the weather is really nice. A lot of the people in my district are from Utah. But I found out that the next MTC President is Brother and Sister Willis from Mesa, Arizona which is really neat!

I miss and love you all! And I just really love my time out here in the field. Write you guys later!

Elder Crandall says his Final Goodbye to Family

Elder Crandall and family left to the PHX airport at 8:30 a.m. this morning. When we all arrived we spotted another missionary giving a final goodbye to his family also. The other missionary had a family friend play the hymn, God Be Will You Till We Meet Again , on her clarinet. After they finished playing for him, the lady came up and asked if she could also play the same hymn again for our family. It was a very special moment for both families. Many tears were shed. The spirit was so strong, it was almost unbearable. After the song, we bonded with the other family, getting to know one another. We talked about our missionaries and where they would be going. The other boy was headed to the Provo MTC and then to Argentina for his mission. Elder Crandall is headed to the Argentina MTC and then to Paraguay for his mission. He will first arrive in Atalanta, Georgia and then fly straight to Argentina. He will arrive there 2 a.m. our time which is 6 a.m. Argentina's time.
